How Seller Fees Are Calculated (Formula)

Total Fees = (m% + a%) × (P + S) + Ffixed + (p% × (P + S) + D) + Ffulfil

Net Profit = (P + S) − Total Fees − C − H − O

P = item price · S = shipping charged · m% = marketplace fee % · a% = optional ad/promoted % · Ffixed = listing or per-order $ fee · p% = payment processing % · D = processing fixed $ · Ffulfil = FBA fulfillment $ · C = item cost · H = shipping cost paid · O = other costs. Special rules: Poshmark, $2.95 if (P+S) < $15, else 20%; Amazon, referral has a $0.30 minimum; Facebook, 5% with a $0.40 minimum on shipped orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Etsy take from sellers in 2026?

Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total order (item price plus shipping charged plus gift wrap), and payment processing of about 3% + $0.25 in the US. On a typical $25 item with $5 shipping, Etsy takes roughly $3.20, about 11% of the order, before any optional Offsite Ads fee (15%, or 12% for shops over $10,000 per year) or country-specific Regulatory Operating Fees.

What percentage does Amazon take for FBA sellers?

Amazon charges a referral fee, usually 15% of the sale price in most categories with a $0.30 minimum, plus an FBA fulfillment fee based on the item's size-and-weight tier. On a $30 order for a small standard item, total Amazon fees commonly land around $10 to $11. Select Amazon FBA in the calculator above and edit the fulfillment field to match your tier.

How much are eBay seller fees?

eBay's final value fee is about 13.6% of the total amount the buyer pays, including shipping, in most categories, plus a $0.30 per-order fee. Optional Promoted Listings adds a percentage of your choice, charged only when the ad drives the sale.

What are Poshmark's fees?

Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and a 20% commission on sales of $15 or more. There are no separate payment processing or listing fees, so the amount the calculator shows is exactly what Poshmark deducts from your sale.

Does Depop charge selling fees?

Depop removed its 10% selling fee for US and UK sellers in July 2024, so the selling fee is now 0%. You still pay payment processing of about 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction in the US. Sellers in other regions should confirm their local rate in the Depop app.

Does Vinted charge sellers any fees?

No. Vinted charges 0% selling fees, so the price you list is what you receive when the item sells. Buyers pay a separate Buyer Protection fee at checkout instead, which is why Vinted often returns the highest payout for fashion resale. Optional paid bumps to promote individual listings are not included in the table.

What are Facebook Marketplace fees?

Local pickup listings are free, with a 0% fee. For shipped orders, Facebook charges a selling fee of 5% of the order total or a $0.40 minimum, whichever is greater.

How do I calculate profit margin after marketplace fees?

Net profit equals the order total (item price plus shipping charged) minus total platform fees, minus item cost, minus shipping cost, minus other costs. Profit margin equals net profit divided by the order total, times 100. This calculator performs both steps instantly and shows its full working beneath the result.

What is a good profit margin for reselling?

For thrifted reselling, 40% to 60% is a healthy target. New-with-tags items often run 25% to 40%, and handmade shops on Etsy commonly aim for 50% or more to cover labor. Margins below about 20% leave little room for returns, promotions or ad spend.

How can I reduce my seller fees?

Reprice shipping into the item price on percentage-fee platforms so buyers see free shipping on the same total. Match each item to its cheapest platform: Vinted and Depop are 0% commission, Poshmark's flat $2.95 suits low-priced items, and FBA buys Prime reach at higher cost. Keep ad rates like Offsite Ads and Promoted Listings as low as your visibility allows, and re-check each platform's rate card every year because fees change frequently.

Formula source & accuracy limitations

Fee logic in this calculator is built from each platform's published US rate card, for example Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and $0.20 listing fee, eBay's ~13.6% final value fee, Poshmark's $2.95 / 20% commission tiers, and Amazon's 15% referral fee with size-tier FBA fulfillment, as reviewed by the PraxisCalc editorial team on July 17, 2026. Actual charges vary by country, product category, store tier and program enrollment; country-specific surcharges (e.g., Etsy's Regulatory Operating Fee), sales tax, income tax, storage fees, returns, and promotional discounts are outside the estimate. Always confirm the current rate in your seller dashboard before pricing inventory, and use the built-in rate editor when your platform's policy changes.
