Scoring Formulas & Methods

Event Points = 60 + (performance − 60-pt anchor) ÷ slope  ·  slope = (100-pt anchor − 60-pt anchor) ÷ 40

Anchors are the official AFT Scoring Scales values (approved 1 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025) for your age group and scale; timed events (SDC, 2-Mile Run) invert the difference since lower is better. Scores clamp to 0, 100. Pass requires ≥60 in every event AND total ≥300 (General) or ≥350 (Combat, sex-neutral). Tape test: Men, BF% = 86.010 × log10(abdomen − neck) − 70.041 × log10(height) + 36.76; Women, BF% = 163.205 × log10(waist + hip − neck) − 97.684 × log10(height) − 78.387, measurements in inches (DoD circumference method, AR 600-9).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Army Fitness Test (AFT)?

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) is the U.S. Army's current physical fitness test of record, effective June 1, 2025 under Army Directive 2025-06. It replaced the ACFT by removing the Standing Power Throw, leaving five scored events: 3-Rep Max Deadlift (MDL), Hand-Release Push-Ups (HRP), Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC), Plank (PLK), and the 2-Mile Run (2MR).

What is the minimum passing score on the AFT?

The General standard (most MOSs) requires at least 60 points in every event and a total of 300 out of 500, using sex- and age-normed scales. The Combat standard, for the 21 designated combat MOSs, applies one sex-neutral, age-normed scale and requires 60 points per event with a 350 total, which means roughly a 70-point average across events.

What changed from the ACFT to the AFT?

Three things changed on June 1, 2025: the Standing Power Throw was removed (5 events instead of 6, so the maximum is 500 instead of 600); scoring returned to age- and sex-normed tables instead of one neutral scale; and a tougher sex-neutral standard with a 350-point minimum was introduced for 21 combat MOSs. Per the Army, the SPT was dropped due to its technical nature and injury risk.

Is the AFT scored differently for male and female Soldiers?

Yes and no. The General standard uses separate male and female scoring tables within each age bracket. The Combat standard for combat-MOS Soldiers is sex-neutral, meaning everyone is scored on the same table within their age bracket. The calculator switches scales automatically when you change the standard.

Which MOSs must meet the AFT combat standard?

The Army designated 21 combat specialties: 11A, 11B, 11C, 11Z, 12A, 12B, 13A, 13F, 18A, 180A, 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F, 18Z, 19A, 19C, 19D, 19K and 19Z. The standard applies to every Soldier holding one of these MOSs regardless of current assignment.

How accurate is this AFT calculator?

Point scores are computed from the official anchor values in the AFT Scoring Scales (approved 1 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025), the exact performance required for 60 and 100 points in each event, age group and sex, with linear interpolation between anchors. Pass/fail results at the 60-point boundary are exact; intermediate scores may differ from the official per-point tables by about 1-2 points. Your official scorecard governs for record purposes, and alternate events and profile exemptions are outside this calculator's scope.

How does the Army tape test (body fat) work?

When a Soldier exceeds their screening weight, body fat is estimated with the DoD circumference method. Men are measured at the neck and abdomen; women at the neck, waist and hip. The equations combine those circumferences with height: for men, BF% = 86.010 x log10(abdomen - neck) - 70.041 x log10(height) + 36.76; for women, BF% = 163.205 x log10(waist + hip - neck) - 97.684 x log10(height) - 78.387. Measurements are in inches.

What are the Army's maximum body fat percentages?

Under AR 600-9, maximum allowable body fat is 20% for men aged 17 to 20, 22% for ages 21 to 27, 24% for ages 28 to 39, and 26% for 40 and over. For women the limits are 30%, 32%, 34% and 36% across the same age groups. Note the Army also introduced a one-site abdominal measurement option in 2023, which this tool does not replicate.

How do you read military time?

Military time runs from 0000 to 2359 with no AM or PM. Times before 1200 are the morning with a leading zero (0730 is 7:30 AM, spoken as zero seven thirty); 1200 is noon; after 1200 subtract 12 to get the evening hour (1630 is 4:30 PM). A full hour is read as hundred, so 2200 is 10:00 PM and is spoken as twenty-two hundred hours.

When do the AFT standards actually take effect?

The AFT became the test of record on June 1, 2025, any test administered on or after that date is an AFT, but the Army announced no administrative action would be taken regarding the new standards until January 1, 2026. After a first record failure, active-duty and Active Guard Reserve Soldiers retest within 90 days, and National Guard and Reserve Soldiers within 180 days.

Sources & accuracy limitations

This tool is built directly from published U.S. Army sources: Army Directive 2025-06 (AFT implementation) and the official AFT Scoring Scales approved 1 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025, from which every 60- and 100-point anchor in the tables above is transcribed; policy details (passing standards, combat MOS list, retest windows) come from the Army's official AFT page at Army.mil; and the tape test uses the DoD circumference equations published in AR 600-9 / DoDI 1308.03. Scores between anchors use linear interpolation and can deviate ~1, 2 points from the official per-point tables; pass/fail at the 60-point boundary is exact. Alternate aerobic events, the 70-point-average rule for permanent profiles, screening-weight tables, and the 2023 one-site tape option are outside scope, your unit's official scorecard and AR 600-9 / FM 7-22 always govern for record purposes.
